Time Zone Converter
Pick a date, a time and two cities. The conversion uses your browser’s built-in time zone rules, so daylight saving time is applied for the exact date you choose.
- Converted time
- 14:00, Sun Nov 8, 2026
- Difference
- 5 hours ahead
- Offsets on this date
- UTC−05:00 → UTC+00:00
How it’s calculated
The time you enter is first turned into a single moment in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) using the “from” zone’s offset on that date, then shown in the “to” zone:
UTC = local time − offset(from)
converted = UTC + offset(to)
Offsets come from the IANA time zone database built into your browser through the JavaScript Intl API, so they include daylight saving time and historical changes. Nothing is downloaded or sent anywhere.
Examples
New York to London
9:00 on Sunday, November 8, 2026 in New York (UTC−05:00) is 14:00 in London (UTC+00:00), 5 hours ahead. In March 2026 the gap is only 4 hours from March 8 to March 28, because the US changes its clocks before the UK.
London to Tokyo
15:00 on July 1, 2026 in London (summer time, UTC+01:00) is 23:00 the same day in Tokyo (UTC+09:00), 8 hours ahead. Japan does not use daylight saving time.
Frequently asked questions
Is daylight saving time handled automatically?
Yes. The offset for each zone is looked up for the exact date and time you enter, so summer and winter time are applied correctly, including the weeks when regions change their clocks on different dates.
Why do the US and Europe change clocks on different days?
The United States switches on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November. The UK and the European Union switch on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October, so the usual gap shrinks by an hour for a few weeks.
Why are some offsets not whole hours?
Some zones use half or quarter hours. India is UTC+05:30, Newfoundland is UTC−03:30 (UTC−02:30 in summer) and Nepal is UTC+05:45. The converter shows these exactly.
What happens with a time that does not exist?
When clocks spring forward, an hour is skipped, such as 2:30 a.m. in New York on the day daylight saving time starts. The converter moves such a time forward to the equivalent time after the change.
What is the difference between UTC and GMT?
For everyday use they show the same time. UTC is the modern scientific time standard, while GMT is a time zone used in the UK and some other countries in winter. London uses BST (UTC+01:00) in summer.
